About Us

The Houston Spanish and Flamenco Festival is a unique collaboration of Art, Education and Culture.

The vision is to provide enriching learning and growth opportunities while celebrating the presence

of Spanish and Flamenco arts in Houston’s multicultural tapestry.  Solero Flamenco, San Jacinto College South and the Consulate General of Spain invite your participation in the events and festivities of this grand celebration!

The 2011 HSFF offers high caliber performances, workshops, lecture/demonstrations, exhibits and gatherings for the participation and enjoyment of the general public, students, artists and aficionados from Houston and the region.

As the featured artist, Pilar Andújar of Alicante, Spain, brings her formal training and expertise

to teach and perform at this year’s festival.  This acclaimed dancer of intense emotion and precision has performed in world stages with some of Spain’s most renowned Flamenco artists and companies.

With education as a priority, the festival will host a variety of workshops at San Jacinto College South’s Marie Spence Flickinger Fine Arts Center.  Participants will engage in flamenco cante, guitarra, baile, percussion, and castanet training under the guidance of professionals.  Participants will have an opportunity to perform before their instructors and peers, thus fostering mentorship and continued interest in the art.

Spanish arts will be featured in multiple aspects of the festival.  Performances include music from the North of Spain, Spanish classical and folk music and Flamenco.  Multimedia art exhibits will engage students as well as local artists in display of Spanish themed works.  These and other events and gatherings will provide wonderful opportunities for cultural exchange.

In collaborative spirit and in support of local talent, the 2011 HSFF invites the participation and performance of many artists from the Houston Flamenco and arts community.

Directors Irma La Paloma and Jeremías García of Solero Flamenco, San Jacinto College South and the Consulate General of Spain thank collaborators, staff, artists, sponsors, advertisers, volunteers and all who make the planning of this festival possible.

Through exposure, education and your participation we will propel the Spanish and Flamenco arts in our community well into the future.
